Avoiding the Spam Filters

When compiling our eblasts, the one thing we all have in common is that we don't want them to end up in a Spam or Junk email box. Here are a few guidelines to help all of us avoid spam filters and get delivered to inboxes, right where we want to be.

1. Avoid using ALL CAPS. They are actually harder to read anyway.

2. Reserve bold for very few words. Less is more.

3. Limit underlined words to links only so we don't confuse our readers.

4. Limit exclamation points to 5 total per entire eblast!

5. Use complete sentences.

6. Use correct capitalization.

7. Use proper punctuation, because "Let's eat, Grandma" and "Let's eat Grandma" mean two (2) totally different things.

8. Use the correct word when writing. Here are a few commonly misused homonyms:

A. To, too & two

·     To - a preposition

·     Too - means a larger amount or means "also" when paired with a comma.

·     Two - this refers to the number 2 or a count of something.

·     Example = "We are going to look at two homes - 164 and 174, too."

B. There, they're, & their

·     There - indicates where something is.

·     They're is a contraction of "they" and "are"

·     Their - possession, belonging to them.

·     Example = "They're going over there to get their things."

C. You're & your

·     You're - contraction for "you are".

·     Your - possessive, you own it

·     Example = "You're going to love your new home."
